SZ podcast “To the Point”: Survivor, perpetrator, UN soldier – the Srebrenica genocide from three perspectives

The 30th anniversary of the Srebrenica genocide is upon us. Photographer and author Armin Smailovic talks about coming to terms with the past, guilt—and three perspectives on the genocide.
These days mark the anniversary of one of the darkest events in Europe since the end of the Second World War: the Srebrenica genocide in 1995. Bosnian Serb troops murdered more than 8,000 people, mainly male Bosniaks.
This episode features documentary photographer and author Armin Smailovic. He has been researching the Srebrenica genocide for years and, among other things, has written a play and a radio play about it for Deutschlandfunk with director Branko Šimić. In it, he tells the stories of a survivor, a perpetrator, and a UN soldier. This podcast episode explores these three perspectives – and the question of whether the international community has learned anything from Srebrenica.
